Volt & Ledger What an EV really costs, in dollars and carbon

Terms of use

Last updated: October 1, 2026

By using Volt & Ledger you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Estimates, not guarantees

Everything on this site is an estimate. Our calculators use published averages: the EPA's lab-tested efficiency ratings and the EIA's statewide average electricity prices. Your actual cost will differ, sometimes by a lot, because of your utility's specific rate plan, time-of-use pricing, weather, driving style, terrain, charging losses, and how much you charge away from home. Your utility bill is the final word, not this site.

Not professional advice

Nothing here is financial, legal, tax, or engineering advice. Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician and permitted where your local code requires it. Decisions about buying a vehicle, charger, battery, or solar system are yours.

Vehicle information

Prices, specifications and availability change. Every figure in the EV finder shows its source and the date it was checked. Confirm price and equipment with the manufacturer or dealer before you buy.

No paid placement

We don't currently use affiliate links, ads or sponsorships, and nobody pays to appear in or rank higher in our results. If we add affiliate links, any purchase you make is between you and the retailer, and our disclosure page will explain how it works.

Third-party sites

We link to government data sources, manufacturers and other sites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices.

Accuracy and availability

We work to keep the data current and correct, and we show the date of every figure. We can't promise the site is error-free or always available. If you spot an error, please tell us.

Acceptable use

Please don't attempt to disrupt the site, overload it with automated requests, or present our calculators or results as your own.

Our content

The text, design and calculators on this site are ours. Government data (EPA, EIA) is public and not ours to restrict. Don't republish our pages wholesale; short quotes with a link are welcome.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or reliance on its estimates. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
